Docupoint Releases DrawingSearcher Version 2.0
Technical Document Portal for AutoCAD® drawing files integrates with Autodesk's Volo View. For Immediate Release SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 9, 2000 - Docupoint, a leading developer of Internet and Intranet applications for AutoCAD, today announced the immediate availability of DrawingSearcher Version 2.0, a technical document portal designed exclusively for AutoCAD drawing files. DrawingSearcher combines the functionality of a web server, full text search engine and Docupoint's acclaimed Whip-n-Post!™ DWF (Drawing Web Format) publishing component into a single, easy to use, server application. Designed for use with Autodesk's Volo View family of drawing viewers, DrawingSearcher provides easy access to large drawing archives within an intranet/LAN environment or over the Intranet. Steven J Potter, P.E., President of Docupoint said, "DrawingSearcher version 2.0 provides a 21st century solution to the age old problem of providing easy access to a large AutoCAD drawing archive. Gone are the days of tedious data entry and unfriendly search interfaces common to legacy document management applications". DrawingSearcher's full text search engine enables non-technical users to quickly and easily locate drawings by a text search on words contained inside the drawing. Selecting the drawing hyperlink opens the file immediately for viewing within Volo View, Autodesk's viewing and markup tool for design drawing files. Todd Berg, Volo View Product Manager for Autodesk, said, "DrawingSearcher and Volo View are perfect companions. Volo View offers the easiest and most affordable way to view, markup, measure and plot drawings without AutoCAD. Coupled with DrawingSearcher's powerful full text search capabilities users will be able to identify, locate and view needed drawings more quickly and efficiently." Anyone familiar with the use of popular web search engines such as Yahoo!, AltaVista and Excite will immediately be familiar with the operation of DrawingSearcher. The user interface for DrawingSearcher v2.0 is fully customizable via an open set of HTML files. Users can quickly edit the standard templates provided to build a customized Portal "home page" to serve their organizations specific needs. DrawingSearcher runs on any Microsoft Window 95/98/NT/2000 computer as the DrawingSearcher server. Client computers require only a browser and Autodesk's Volo View or Volo View Express viewer.
