Intergraph and ICARUS Enter Technology Alliance Agreement To Increase Companies' Mutual Plant Life Cycle Solution Coverage

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., May 3, 1999 - Intergraph Corporation (NASDAQ:INGR) and ICARUS Corporation today jointly announced they have signed an API technology alliance agreement. Under terms of the agreement, Intergraph will interface its SmartPlant™ process plant design and data access solutions with ICARUS Knowledge-based (Kbase™) Engineering Technology and plant creation engineering products.

The goal of the API technology alliance is to significantly improve support for both engineering and business decisions through rapid access to accurate cost, process design and construction data. The result is a reduction of the total cost of facility ownership throughout the process plant life cycle. The interface, which will link to ICARUS Kbase Technology, is based on the ICARUS Application Programming Interface (API) licensed to Intergraph under terms of the agreement. The interface will be available later this year in Intergraph SmartPlant P&ID.

Initial SmartPlant P&ID Interface Promotes Cost Control

Intergraph plans to first interface SmartPlant P&ID to the ICARUS Kbase for continuous-basis cost estimating. The interface is designed to allow the plant owner and the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor to calculate, analyze, monitor and control facility costs, and evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of projects at any time from the conceptual through detailed design phases and into construction.

SmartPlant P&ID creates intelligent piping and instrumentation diagrams while building a comprehensive data model. SmartPlant P&ID integrates with existing Intergraph Plant Design System (PDS™) data, other systems such as those for document and data management, as well as third-party software for such tasks as line and valve sizing.

ICARUS Kbase Engineering Technology enables engineers to simulate, model and analyze the design, cost and time requirements of a proposed project in a fraction of the time, effort and expense of conventional engineering methods.

Expanding Plant Life Cycle Decision Benefits

"Intergraph and ICARUS are concentrating first on front-end phases of the plant life cycle. Early, informed economic and design decisions developed from ICARUS Kbase Technology from the minimum project scope affords the maximum opportunity to reduce capital costs up to 30 percent," said David Stinson, executive vice president, Process & Building Solutions division, Intergraph. "The ICARUS and Intergraph agreement shows our continuing commitment to work with leading companies to provide comprehensive plant life cycle solutions for mutual customers. This step is a precursor to ICARUS joining AspenTech, debis Systemhaus and Intergraph in our strategic alliance initiative for the process industries."

Herb Blecker, president and CEO, ICARUS Corporation, said, "The ICARUS and Intergraph agreement further reinforces ICARUS' goal of integrating best-of-class, leading, process industry-accepted software with ICARUS Kbase Engineering Technology. Our commitment is to enable improved, intelligent business and technical decisions to benefit plant owners as well as EPCs."
