Bentley Releases New Products for Process Plant Design

Technology Facilitates Automatic Extraction of Isometric Plant Piping Systems

Philadelphia, PA, Bentley International User Conference - September 28, 1999 -Bentley Systems, Incorporated (Exton, PA), today announced the worldwide availability of L/PDISOTM and Personal I-GENT, automatic isometric extraction software from LOGOS B.V. (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and Alias, Ltd. (UK) respectively. L/PDISO, an isometrics tool for the process industry, is already available in Europe and is now shipping to North America. L/PDISO was developed exclusively for, and is entirely integrated with, Bentley's flagship engineering software MicroStationr. L/PDISO can be used with several CAD applications or in combination with Bentley's PlantSpacer products to automatically extract isometric drawings.

Personal I-GEN offers an easy-to-use, limited-functionality program that uses the full power of the ISOGEN layout engine to provide fully automatic isometrics.

Personal I-GEN is supplied with every new license of PlantSpace Design Series or can be downloaded by Bentley SELECTSM subscribers from SELECT Streamr as an update for current Design Series users. L/PDISO facilitates the creation of three-dimensional isometric pipelines, ensures correct material and component selection, and generates automatic bills of materials. Users can define specific needed reports - such as weld lists, bend lists, and pipe-cut-length lists. Isomodels can be incorporated into a multidisciplinary plant model used in design reviews and to perform visualization.

With over 200 customers in 22 countries, L/PDISO offers organizations a consistent method to manage design specifications and is customizable to company standards. Because piping specifications are stored in a centralized location, they can be shared across the organization. In addition, a three-dimensional plant model created with L/ISO can link into the specification management system being used.

L/PDISO allows users to customize the program as needed. Isometrics generated with L/PDISO are intelligent and can be manipulated or modified after automatic extraction from the three-dimensional model. The product also integrates easily with other software. Isometrics can be extracted interactively or in batch mode and can be used with the piping specifications created in the PlantSpace products.

L/PDISO also allows for review and visualization using Bentley PlantSpacer Enterprise NavigatorT. When designers need to generate material take-off reports from the drawings, L/PDISO automatically provides a complete bill of material or can interface directly with material management systems. Since the software assigns positioning data to each design component, users can categorize the components. This also allows the data, in ASCII format, to be used with Microsoft Access and other database programs.

Personal I-GEN provides the full functionality of ISOGEN for automatic isometric drawing and bill of materials production, but with a restriction on the number of option switches that can be set by the user. A basic version of the full ISOGEN system, each copy of Personal I-GEN is provided for processing piping design created on the single copy of the PlantSpace Piping system.

When there is a need to use company specific drawing borders, additional option switches or generate data reports such as weld schedules or material control files, an upgrade to Personal ISOGEN is available.

Both L/PDISO and Personal I-GEN are ideal for companies involved in the oil, gas, chemical, food, pharmaceutical, shipbuilding, and offshore industries. L/PDISO and Personal I-GEN can benefit engineering companies immensely when designing new plants, as well as owner/operators planning retrofits or updating isometrics.
