Dow Chemical Chooses Ariba E-Commerce Solution Newly Announced Customer
Deploys Ariba Solution to Reduce Operating Resource Costs
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - October 19, 1999 - Ariba, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARBA), the leader in business-to-business electronic commerce solutions for operating resources, today announced The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) as a new customer and that Dow is now live with its phase one implementation of the Ariba(R) eCommerce solution. Dow, a global science and technology based company with 39,000 employees and 1998 annual sales of more than US$18 billion, has so far deployed the Ariba business-to-business eCommerce solution to 6000 users in five locations in North America. Dow plans to use the Ariba business-to-business eCommerce solution throughout its operations for the many purchases of its operating resources, the non-production goods and services required for daily operation. Dow expects the Ariba solution to significantly reduce operating costs by aggregating and channeling these purchases to specific suppliers. The Dow implementation of the Ariba solution, which is internally branded on Dow's intranet as "Dow-e-Mart", currently provides employees with the ability to choose from more than 80,000 catalog items from 47 suppliers. Dow expects to deploy the Ariba solution globally with European rollout in mid 2000 and the rest of the world to follow. "We selected the Ariba solution due to the maturity of its solution and the ability to implement e-commerce for purchasing immediately" said Gary Veurink, Dow's Global Purchasing VP. "We anticipate significant savings through our use of the Ariba solution over the next 5 years." "We are very pleased that Dow, another Fortune 100 company, has chosen Ariba as its business-to-business eCommerce infrastructure," said Dave Rome, vice president of marketing at Ariba. "We look forward to helping Dow and its suppliers improve efficiencies and cut costs through more efficient commerce." |
